Most amazing project EVER!!! Tutorial..check it out!!

Hi, Pixie Fans! If you attended our recent Blog Hop you know that the Pixies featured digis from Kathy's newest collection "The Red Cape".

I made an explosion box for the Hop, and Kathy asked me (CAT DARLING) if I would do a tutorial.

So here it is!

STEP ONE
Place a piece of 12" x 12" CS on a Scor-Pal. Score at 4" and 8".
Turn sideways and score again at 4" and 8". Cut out sections marked with an X.

Crease on folds, and set aside.

STEP TWO

Cut 5 pieces of one DP 3 3/4" x 3 3/4"

Cut 5 pieces of another DP 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"

Adhere the smaller pieces to the larger.
Set one adhered piece aside.

STEP THREE
Take CS from Step One and turn over. Adhere one piece from Step Two to each outside flap. Set aside.

STEP FOUR

Cut 5 pieces of CS 3 3/4" X 3 3/4". Adhere to back side of CS from Step One.

I added "The Basket" from this collection to the center.

LID
Cut one piece of CS (same as used for box) 5 1/8" x 5 1/8". Score 1/2" from edge on all four sides.

Cut ends as shown in photo.

Crease on folds with bone folder.

Adhere ends as shown in photo.

Attach remaining square from Step Two to top of lid.

Decorate the outside of the box as desired. I added ribbons, a button, a punched border, and "The Basket" digi.

CHARACTERS
Now you are ready to add the characters! These digital images, "The Red Cape Collection", were printed out in wallet size using the "shrink to fit" feature in Picasa . Then they were colored using Copics and Prismas.

"Cottage in the Trees" was printed in 4" x 6" and sized to fit in Picasa 3. Cut out the characters, and then you are ready to make them stand up!

Cut a strip of CS 1 1/4" x 2 1/2". Fold it in half forming a square. Open it up.

Fold one end toward the center.

Open.

Turn over.

Fold the left side up even with the first fold on the right.

Open again. Fold the opposite corner so that the side is even with the first fold on the right.

When folding is complete, the folds will look like those in the picture above.

Turn paper over and push sides in as shown.

This view shows the sides pushed in with the base resting on the table.

Tilt back, and place glue as shown.

Hold in place until glue adheres to base.

This is what the stand looks like from the back.

Cut a small piece of CS that is 1 1/4" long.

Fold in ends as shown.

Glue in place as pictured. This is the back view.

This is a side view.

Place a dab of glue on the front of the stand. (See X)....

and attach a figure. Your character will now stand and can be moved around on the board as you tell the story of Little Red Ridinghood. If you want your figure to be more sturdy, you can also glue a small washer to the bottom of the stand.

I hope you'll be inspired to make your own explosion box. The Pixies would LOVE to see what you create! The "Red Cape Collection" and many more adorable digis are available in the Pixie Dust Studio. Stop by, and pick some up today!
